Mom calls out day care over ‘bloody’ Halloween decorations: ‘I was horrified’

As a massive horror fan, my standards for what is scary for my child have been pretty low.

But it seems I’m not typical/I’m a negligent midwife.

A mother wrote last week baby pot that she is a “Halloween Prude” and wants public decorations to be conscious of scaring her young children.

And now, a Melbourne mother has been concerned about children’s “bloody handprints” on display at her childcare centre.

“Halloween Decorations in Kindergarten”

The mum wrote in a Facebook group, asking if other parents would be shocked:

“I was horrified (no pun intended) when I found out he was 3 years younger [room] at our local center decorated their window with the handprints of the children in the bloodstained class… some crawling as if to suggest some kind of suffering.

“I get that they want to get into the (again no pun intended) spirit of things. But there are plenty of other decorating ideas they could go for that don’t portray some sort of child harm.

“Not to mention it can be caused by people having lived through trauma or abuse. Thoughts?”

The post didn’t include a photo, but we imagine it looked something like this:

“Halloween is not suitable for children”

The comment section was divided on the mom’s post.

“So unnecessary,” agreed one. “If you don’t speak up now, next year it will snowball into something bigger and scarier. I can’t understand why people think Halloween is appropriate for kids (taking candy from strangers – um, hello?!)”

This woman had a stronger opinion: “It’s not a coincidence and not a bit of fun. It’s time we all open our eyes enough to include our children.

“Parents getting killed in children’s movies, dark nursery rhymes, this Halloween bs…there’s so much we need to rethink about how we’re all indoctrinated to participate and normalize so many twisted things. “

“I personally don’t see any problem”

There were some commenters who did not agree with Mom at all.

“I think people can be a bit sensitive. If it would negatively affect the children, I would absolutely be concerned, if not, I personally don’t see a problem,” one diplomat wrote.

Another mother added: “Yeah, maybe I’d just politely suggest to the center management that they stick to kid-friendly Halloween decorations. No need to put blood and gore into it. I think the staff just got a little excited when they decorated.”

Then there was this balanced voice: “The best thing about children’s minds is that they are innocent. I think you are too sensitive.

“They will be exposed to more trick or treating. My son last year went to his pre-kindergarten trick-or-treating for Halloween as a blood zombie.”

Finally, this mother thought the whole thing was funny.

“Omg, are people really that bad in society. I’m pretty sure it won’t traumatize them from them knowing it’s ink and their handprints.

“A lot of stores have a lot worse. Don’t hide your children and teach them fake entertainment from real life and they won’t be traumatized by it.”
